Shockwave Therapy

As of June 23, 2025, we are now offering shockwave therapy!

What is Shockwave?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), otherwise referred to as shockwave therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that works by delivering acoustic waves to the site of injury. These strong energy pulses transmit radially inside the tissue and work to accelerate body's healing process by stimulating the cells responsible for bone and connective tissue healing, and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue.

At Woolwich Physiotherapy we use shockwave therapy in conjunction with our physiotherapy treatment, which has been shown to be extremely effective for a variety of bone and soft tissue injuries.

Typically, shockwave therapy is administered one time per week for a total of 3-5 sessions with continued benefits/healing occurring up to 3 months after the last treatment.

What conditions can shockwave treat?

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Hell Spur/Heel Pain
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Golfer's Elbow and Tennis Elbow
  • Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
  • Shoulder Calcific Tendinitis
  • Patellar Tendinopathy
  • Stress Fractures
  • Muscle Injuries
  • Myofascial Trigger Points
  • Bursitis
  • Gluteal Tendinopathy

Who should not include shockwave as part of their treatment?

Shockwave therapy is not an appropriate treatment modality in the presence of a localized infection, malignant tumour, or during pregnancy. Patients with bleeding disorders or receiving anticoagulation therapies may also not be appropriate for shockwave therapy.

What is the cost of shockwave treatment?

For an initial physiotherapy assessment with shockwave, the fee is $140.

The College of Physiotherapists requires all Registered Physiotherapists to perform a thorough assessment before performing any type of treatment, including shockwave.

Subsequent shockwave treatments are $95 each.

If you are an existing patient in active care of one of our Registered Physiotherapists (ie. you have had an assessment for your current area of concern within 4 months) you do not need to perform another Initial Assessment.
