Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a therapeutic modality where thin needles are inserted into specific points around the body to help encourage natural healing, reduce pain and inflammation, and restore function of the affected areas.
Originating in China, acupuncture has been used as a treatment technique for over 3000 years. It may be used for a wide variety of health related concerns including many common musculoskeletal injuries seen in our clinic, such as low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, nerve pain, and muscle and tendon injuries.
When performing acupuncture, the needles are often mechanically or electrically stimulated which triggers a release of endorphins and other opioid-like substances in the body. Endorphins block pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain resulting in pain relief, relaxation, and biochemical restoration of the body's natural regulation systems.
